BBQ Ribs in the Oven
The weather is warming up, and we’re making everything BBQ! These BBQ Ribs are indisputably the king of any BBQ.
These BBQ Ribs are the most tender, flavorful ribs you’ll ever have.
The Secret to the Most Tender BBQ Ribs
Growing up, my uncle used to make the best barbecues, including the most tender BBQ Ribs ever. He admitted that a butcher told him that the secret to tender ribs is to boil the ribs in water first. That makes sense.
Boiling the ribs first helps to tenderize the meat and break down some of that tough connective tissue.
If your butches hasn’t already, pull off the silverskin off of the back of the ribs. You can read a excellent short instructional article at Fine Cooking.
How to Make the Best BBQ Ribs in the Oven:
Prep the Ribs:
Line a baking sheet pan with several layers of nonstick foil. This will make clean up a lot quicker and easier.
Preheat your oven to 330 degrees Fahrenheit.
Put the ribs in a large pot of water. Add the salt. Bring the water to a low boil. Simmer the ribs for about 15 minutes, or until they start to become tender. Skim the froth off the top as it boils. Make sure to keep an eye on your pot, as the water may boil over.
In a small dish, combine the onion powder, paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, and pepper.
Remove the ribs from the water, making sure to drain any excess water off of the ribs. Pat the ribs dry with a paper tower.
Bake the Ribs:
Put your ribs onto the prepared baking sheet. Rub your dry rub mix onto each side. Slather about a cup of our Homemade BBQ Sauce on the top side of the ribs. If you haven’t made Homemade BBQ Sauce, feel free to pick up your favorite brand. Just make sure it’s not a thin, watery sauce.
Cover with foil and bake for 50 minutes.
Flip the rack of ribs over and slather another cup of BBQ Sauce on your ribs. Cover the ribs back with the foil and bake for an additional 50 minutes.
At this point, flip the ribs over again. Slather some more BBQ Sauce over the ribs. This time, leave the ribs uncovered. Bake them for another 60 minutes, or until tender.
Enjoy!
