Baked Short Ribs
These Baked Short Ribs are done entirely in the oven. Baking them low and slow ensures a tender short rib. It also gives you plenty of time to do other things, like make some cheesy polenta/mamaliga or creamy garlic mashed potatoes.
Ingredients for the Baked Short Ribs:
For the Dry Rub BBQ Seasoning:
- 1-1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1-1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon corn starch
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
You can also use 5 tablespoons of your favorite bbq seasoning instead of the homemade blend.
All other ingredients:
- About 4 pounds bone-in short ribs
- 3/4 cup BBQ Sauce of your choice, or my Homemade BBQ Sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon Cointreau or orange juice
How to make baked short ribs in the oven:
- Take the short ribs out of the refrigerator at least 30 minutes before baking them.
- Preheat the oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Combine the ingredients for the Dry Rub BBQ Seasoning. Sprinkle the seasoning on each side of the short ribs, especially on the meaty side.
- Place the seasoned short ribs on a disposable baking tray. Cover the ribs with foil and bake for 3 hours.
- In a small dish, combine the BBQ sauce, honey, and Cointreau.
- Transfer the short ribs to a second disposable baking tray. Dispose of the first tray since it will be full of fat.
- Glaze the short ribs with the BBQ sauce mixture and return them to oven. Bake uncovered for an additional hour, or until a knife can be inserted with little resistance.
